Todd Solondz's Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning cult classic Americana femcel film, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Co-Presented by Nowhere Film Club
Tormented by her classmates and alternately ignored or persecuted at home, Dawn (Heather Matarazzo) sets herself up for a fall when she devises a plan to seduce the hunky new guitarist in her nerdy brother’s high school garage band. Unrelenting in its portrait of teenage viciousness, the film manages to be serious without despair and comic without condescension.
One of the key American independent films of the 1990s, Todd Solondz’s debut feature won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and inaugurated the director’s singular cinema of cruelty. Shy, awkward, and cursed with an easily mockable surname, 12-year-old Dawn Wiener has just about every strike against her in the junior high hierarchy.
