A SYDNEY EROS ONCE NEARLY LOST, NEWLY UNEARTHED AND BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN
Co-Presented by EX FILM
Following last year's showcase The Lost Sex Films of Kings Cross, EX FILMS returns to present a restoration of the rarely seen full-length feature by Sydney-based erotic artists George and Charis Schwarz (1935-2021) About Love.
This bold 1973 anthology was originally conceived as five shorts and rejected by cinema owners due to fears of police prosecution. It screened once only to members of the Sydney Graduates Club and was locked away for decades … until now!
Under their Magma Productions banner, George and Charis Schwarz set out to make "unique Australian cinema" exploring dream, reality, and archetypal human experiences; following the personal struggles of five women. Shot in and around Sydney and capturing now-vanished landmarks, the film features stark, noir-inspired cinematography by Grant Mudford and a jazz score by John Sangster with a standout lineup of internationally renowned musicians.
An unusual, erotic and emotionally charged work, About Love defied the era's social conservatism, pushing boundaries through Schwarz' radical cinematic style. If you saw last year’s The Lost Sex Films of Kings Cross session, you’ll know that it sold out fast - so grab your tickets asap!
