TWO FILMS ON TRYING AND FAILING TO LEAVE ALL THE BULLSHIT BEHIND ...
A screening showcasing the work of writer/director Avalon Fast, who violently confronts gender tensions and community identities with dark humour, harsh visuals, and righteous rage.
Fast's first feature Honeycomb is a digital nightmare of youth searching for freedom. In the mundane hours of early summer, five bored girls pack their bags and whisper a quick goodbye to the life they knew. An abadnoned cabin in the wild wood becomes their dream of utopia. But the dream is fragile, and it asks for blood.
In Fast's recent shot-on-video short Cinephile Complex, a group of film bros go on an exclusive weekend getaway. The girlfriends wonder why they never got an invitation? A quick and dirty Fuck You to the slimeballs and the gatekeepers.
Screens with a pre-recorded Q&A with Avalon Fast.

"So elegantly epitomizes what can be done in DIY film" - Vera Drew, director of The People's Joker
"Honeycomb's form and style intuitively evokes Sarah Jacobson, Amanda Kramer, and Sophia Coppola, but Avalon Fast's original voice cuts through it all and stands alone." - Peter Kuplowsky, TIFF Midnight Madness programmer
