2016, small-town Canada: two best friends drink away the part of the day they can’t sleep away. When they’re not bussing tables, Palmer (co-director Avalon Fast, Honeycomb and Camp) and Iris (co-director Jillian Frank) live to open cans behind the wheel, take a toke, snort ket (first) and then coke (later), vape always at the ready… but how long can they stave off their troubles by running in place?
A lo-fi mumblecore throwback from two of the Canadian underground's best chroniclers of gender friction, Drinking and Driving swings a crunchy handheld camera around the vehicles, bodies, and minds of its troubled queer protagonists as they tumble closer and closer together. With their third collaboration (and first as co-directors), Fast and Frank cement themselves as dual contemporary masters of the melancholy hangout movie.
