After his wife is admitted to an asylum, her husband secretly takes a job there as the new janitor to keep a watchful eye over her. The experience soon takes a toll on him, and the line between reality and fantasy becomes increasingly difficult to discern. Produced at a time when cinema had just begun to explore the subconscious, Teinosuke Kinugasa's avant-garde masterpiece is an innovative and inventive foray into subjective filmmaking.
A print of the film was recovered in the 70s in legendary filmmaker Teinosuke Kinugasa’s storeroom, following 45-years of being missing. It's since been restored and is now celebrated as a cryptic masterpiece filled with stunning dreamy visuals, here accompanied by a live score from local noise musician Uboa.
