AN AUSSIE ACTION MOVIE BIG ENOUGH FOR THE END OF THE WORLD
Co-Presented with EatYourShoe
In a dystopian version of Brisbane known only as ‘The Void,’ amateur writer Ricky Carter sells illicit substances part time to make ends meet. After his deal with ruthless crime lord King Goldstein ends in a bloodbath, a running Ricky is enlisted by masked vigilante Hammertime and charming ex-con Anton to take down a doomsday cult who have plans to send the Earth into a new ice age. Their quest to save the world will result in thousands of punches thrown, swords sliced, bullets shot, and bodies goopified. It will also force Ricky to confront the fear that’s been curdling inside him for too long.
Writer/director Haruki Ryles was 18 years old when he and fellow student filmmakers set out to make an action-comedy epic for $3,000, and 100% PURE RAGE is alive with youthful passion and joyous experimentation. It also looks better than most movies made with exponentially more money—Ryles and co honour stated inspiration Wong Kar-Wai with gorgeous neon hues, lonesome cityscapes, and a romantic melancholy that holds steady through all the inventively staged action sequences. It’s spectacular, and then it’s moving. Features one of the greatest boxing matches ever committed to digital.

"This would rip in a theatre where I could see lead Max Johnson’s panicked face in extreme close up, big as a wall." - Kai Perrignon, BUFF Head Programmer
"Hyper-modern DIY action layered with emotionally raw rage at being born just in time for what my be the actual end times for real. Nothing held back, every seemingly possible idea and style is thrown into a blender with absolute conviction." - Uilli, Letterboxd
